Understanding and appreciating the equipment and techniques used by the original surveyor along with their shortcomings are essential to achieving that goal.
This program will discuss the following aspects:
Error analysis and isolation types
Traverse adjustment vs. no adjustment
Magnetic vs. true bearings
Types of distance measuring device and their shortcomings.
In addition, there will be a field exercise dependent on the use of GPS as a modern retracement tool. Participants will be responsible for their own device and will work in small groups.
Incorporated into this program is the equivalent of two hours of ETHICS: Relationship to proper performance, adhering to legal requirements, and professional and ethical responsibilities are designed into various parts of the program.
